Charli XCX's latest project, Pop 2, is finally here. After the near-perfect smash of March's Number 1 Angel, fans were left wondering if this was just the warmup to her next full studio album. Although she's calling Pop 2 a mixtape, it's clear Charli's put a lot of heart and effort into bringing this to life. A departure from the emotional, red hues of Number 1 Angel, Pop 2 "felt in the holographic purple world—lots of different colors, and not necessarily just one thing," Charli told the Fader.
Charli has been promoting the mixtape heavily via her Instagram, sharing song snippets and detailing the process of assembling her all-girl dream team. For one single, "Unlock It," featuring Kim Petras and Jay Park, Charli shared an anecdote of how the song came together.
The mixtape features a ton of her friends and former collaborators, including Cupcakke, Tove Lo, Carly Rae Jepsen, Mykki Blanco, and MØ, and these collabs were a big part of the project. "This mixtape isn’t necessarily about me—it’s really about giving everybody their moment to own the song," says Charli.
