The record-breaking winning streak for Justin Bieber's Jesus inception masterpiece Purpose continues this week, as his single "Love Yourself" just replaced his own "Sorry" atop the official UK singles chart. This remarkable move, according to NME, places Bieber in some pretty dope company. The last living artist to pull this off was none other than The Beatles, confirmed legends, with "She Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand" back in 1963. Elvis Presley, another confirmed legend, managed to do the same with "Jailhouse Rock" and "One Night/I Got Stung" reissues in 2005.
Purpose certainly hasn't been slacking in the records-breaking department here in the States either. The album pulled more than 640,000 copies during its first week of release in the U.S., ultimately powering Bieber to break a Hot 100 record previously guarded by Drake and those aforementioned Beatles by simply having a bunch of simultaneous hit singles. Purpose also landed the most Spotify streams in one day.
Adele, of course, is clearly prepared to break all of these records relatively soon.
