Amateur Best's new single "Marzipan", taken from his upcoming album The Gleaners (due out October 2), was a relaxed piece of music that wore its French influence on its sleeve. You couldn't quite call "Marzipan" house music, but there is a very recognisable French influence there, between the gliding synths and sultry vocals. Ray Mang's remix, however, gives the track a snappier beat, dragging it just to the outer limits of what you could conceivably describe as club music.
A basic, rattling percussive line runs through while looped analogue sounds orbit the track's core. As the track progresses, more and more loops and sequences are introduced, building up to its apex; a chorus of analogue-sounding synths that resound warmly through the ear. The actual refrain, a vocal sample that repeats "marzipan" before getting down to the actual lyrics, sounds as fragile and delicate as the rest of the track. Listen to it exclusively below.
