Eminem Is Zane Lowe's First-Ever Beats 1 Radio Interview

In session now.

At 1pm today, Beats 1 Radio host Zane Lowe hosted the Apple Music station's first-ever interview guest, Eminem.

The veteran Detroit rapper announced yesterday that the music video for his new single "Phenomenal," from the Southpaw film soundtrack, will debut later this week. In his interview with Lowe, Eminem confirmed that the full soundtrack will feature 50 Cent, Action Bronson, and Slaughterhouse as well as himself.

Eminem addressed actor Jake Gyllenhaal's lead casting in Southpaw, which was originally written with Eminem in mind as the film's boxer protagonist. Due to conflicts with his recording schedule for The Marshall Mathers LP 2 in 2013, however, Eminem declined the role and instead agreed to executive produce the film's soundtrack.

"I wouldn't change a thing," Eminem told Lowe. "Jake smashed it."

Discussing the Southpaw soundtrack's lead single, "Phenomenal," Eminem revealed that the film's producers wanted a song to recapture the magic of "Till I Collapse" from The Eminem Show in 2002. After Lowe played the new single, he and Eminem talked about film montages and, together, sang Joe Esposito's "You're The Best" from the original Karate Kid soundtrack.

Southpaw and its soundtrack both drop nationwide on July 24.
