WizKid's main competition as Africa's biggest superstar—and the artist whose 2012 hit "Dami Duro" first instigated my interest in Nigerian music—is Davido. Uhuru, meanwhile, is a South African group, and it is South Africa's influence that is most evident in the lush, groove-driven production on "The Sound." (WizKid, perhaps unsurprisingly, also has a new record collaborating with Uhuru called "Duze.") Davido has a diverse catalog, but with recent collaborations with South African group Mafikizolo and the solo record "Owo Ni Koko" he seems drawn to the enveloping elegance of South African house at the moment.
