If you've been paying attention to the producer movement of the last three years, one name that's continued to thrive has been CRNKN. Many first associated him with the trap wave that EDM experienced back in 2012, but over the last three years this 21-year-old's sound has evolved to be so much more than that. Skrillex's NEST HQ imprint dropped CRNKN's huge EP The Clearing last year, which highlighted just how much his sound had progressed, but it's his reworking of Alesso's latest single "Cool" that really shows off what CRNKN can do.
Similar to his huge 2014 hit "Heroes," Alesso has a knack for grabbing a stellar vocal, and CRNKN found a way to grab Roy English's singing and throw it over a a subtle bounce that is hype enough to get your dance on to but is far from overpowering. That vibe, paired with English's soul-filled vocal, is money in the bank, and should have heads looking out for forthcoming CRNKN material, which is said to include an EP as well as collaborations with French duo ALESIA and the multi-hued American bass master Bro Safari. For now, rock with bae to this slick remix.
