Long before the hyphen was dropped, Jay Z used to bless his fans with radio freestyles. This one, for the Funkmaster Flex show on Hot 97, features Mr. Carter referencing some of the same things he talks about today: ("Inspired by Basquiat"), ("Most kings get driven so insane that they try to hit the same vein that Kurt Cobain did").
This verse, specifically, found its eventual home on the song "Most Kingz" with Chris Martin.
