We got to hand it to Azealia Banks. She knows how to work a good Twitter feud. Especially if it’s with a veteran like Lil’ Kim.
About two weeks ago, rap fans were excited to hear that the 20-year-old announced a possible collaboration with the Queen Bee. Whether it was for her debut album Broke With Expensive Taste or a mixtape track, the pair could have cooked up a nice clash of Harlem meets Brooklyn. Banks even gushed over the hip-hop icon, tweeting, “Most female Rappers are Lil Kim stans but just don’t know it.” Sounds like things were going according to plan.
From Banks’ tweets last Friday (May 4), there has been some sort of fallout. Although she didn’t state Kim specifically, you can make the connection that something happened behind-the-scenes.
“It really sucks when someone you respect and admire is trying to act brand new when all u did was reach out and try to work,” she said. “I can’t lie… My little feelings are hurt. Women are so petty… but whatever… Your Loss… Not mine.” There have been reports that Banks unfollowed Lil’ Kim on Twitter and in exchange started to follow her rival Nicki Minaj.
Earlier this morning, Banks continued with tweets that were directed at Kim’s camp. Banks makes it clear that there is no beef, but it’s interesting to learn why she is so upset. These tweets reveal that she ghostwrote a verse for Kim for a possible record. And, well, we’ll let Banks explain the rest.
Okay so true tea is that Lil Kim got mad that I wrote a verse for her on a record I wanted her on.

Everyone knows Lil Kim doesn't write her own raps and I saw this as a faster more efficient way of getting the track done.

She then had her assistant write me some long ass offensive email about how Lil Kim writes her own raps and doesn't need anyone's help.

So..... My question was and is still... IS SHE DOING THE TRACK?
— ♥ YUNG RAPUNXEL ♥ (@AZEALIABANKS) May 6, 2012
Who cares about what you use to do.... WILL YOU DO THE TRACK??!

All this extra shit is stupid. Keep closing your own doors ma. @lilkim

Now, representatives for Kim are claiming that Banks is brewing up a phony hip-hop beef. In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop, Kim’s publicist CJ Carter spoke on the whole matter. Check out some excerpts from the full statement below.
"My client and azealia have NEVER spoke to one another or met AT ALL. Kim was actually very flattered azealia’s public admiration for her, which is why it’s so hard to understand how someone who claims to be a true Lil Kim fan could flip the script so easily on someone who was supposedly their idol."
"It is also VERY interesting that NO ONE from her team made any attempts to reach out to anyone from our team to voice any concerns or problems that they may have had. I have NEVER heard of anyone having a conflict with someone they have NEVER met with or personally spoke with."
"We have no idea what they are referencing and have no desire to discuss the matter any further as there is nothing to talk about. It honestly seems that someone from azealia’s team would rather have her fans buy into manufactured drama instead of buying music."
Banks has already established herself as a femcee who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. But did she just ruin her chances in working with a true legend in the game? Or is this another case of a new artist airing out some frustrations? Just another day in rap beefs.
