Vegan's Legal Battle Against Meat-Eating Neighbors Inspires Protest BBQ

But seriously, we should all consider eating less meat if we care about the planet and whatnot.

The benefits of a plant-based diet are numerous, not to mention it's easier than ever to sway meat adorers to the lighter side of life thanks to the easy availability of products like the Impossible Burger. Still, there's still unfortunately some on the strict vegan side of things who think leading with militaristic tactics is the way to grow the movement. It's not.

For a solid current example, we turn to a vegan from Perth, Australia who's reportedly taking her neighbor to court for, among other things, using a barbecue to cook non-vegan items.

"They've put it there so I smell fish, all I can smell is fish," Cilla Carden told9 News of the placement of her neighbors' barbecue device. "I can't enjoy my backyard, I can't go out there."

Now, as the story inspires variations worldwide on the "vegan beef" pun, Carden's plight is being detailed in compelling fashion in almost every corner of the media landscape. Additional complaints include the smell of cigarettes, the sound of basketballs against a court of some sort, and other sounds often associated with having a good or at least tolerable time.

Unsurprisingly, the legal matters associated with this debacle—which saw Carden take the issue up with the State Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court—have hit a wall. 9 News said earlier this week that the associated case has been dismissed by both. Furthermore, an appeal request was rejected. She plans to continue her fight, however.

Amid all the fun, thousands have publicly committed to taking part in a unified trolling in the form of a barbecue. A Facebook event spotted by Delish and others showed that more than 4,000 people had RSVP'd to take part in what was billed as a Community BBQ for Cilla Carden on Oct. 19.

"BYO hotdog buns, p.s. NO VEGANS," the event page, described as being "better than storming Area 51," advised. At the time of this writing, the event page was no longer live.
