A man literally named Sober, as in "you're definitely not sober enough to drive," was arrested in Butler County, Pennsylvania recently for allegedly being exactly that.
An unrelated call Saturday evening resulted in local police in Middlesex Township spotting a "suspicious vehicle" along the Old Route 8 road, according to regional outlet WTAE. Officers then followed the vehicle, operated by 44-year-old Lower Burrell resident Daniel Sober, before initiating a traffic stop in the parking lot of a nearby Catholic school.
Once pulled over, Sober told officers he had just dropped off his girlfriend “so she could check on her son.” During the discussion, officers caught a whiff of alcohol on his breath before deciding to have him undergo a sobriety exam by way of a breathalyzer. Once he was relocated to the police station, Sober was found to be, well, not sober. In fact, WTAE notes that court documents show his blood alcohol content (.194 percent) was more than twice the state's legal limit of .08 percent.
Sober has now been hit with charges including driving under the influence and careless driving. He's since been released but is due back in court March 20, per WQAD.
All jokes aside, driving drunk isn't something anyone should be doing, regardless of their last name. In 2017, the most recent year's stats cited by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were nearly 11,000 deaths related to drunk driving accidents.
