Part of being an adult is realizing that certain situations are beyond your control.
But your reaction to those events? Entirely within your hands.
Here's to putting on your grown-up pants, and accepting personal responsibility, even when it feels like everything is completely chaotic. Read this simple guide to crushing it in life—or at the very least, looking as though you are.
1. Acknowledge your worth.
Recognizing your self-worth determines how you operate in the world. Your self-esteem shouldn't depend on anything external—the only thing that matters is what you think about yourself. Do not allow fear, rejection, or setbacks to affect you. When you're confident, it shows that you're secure with who you are. You were born with a purpose, and until you understand what it is, keep on exploring; self-examination results in self-love, and it will unlock your creativity and potential.
2. Take responsibility for your own reality.
Sometimes things happen that are entirely out of your control, but learn to accept those adversities for what they are: life lessons and an integral part of your journey. Only you have the ability to control how much hardship affects you. Each of us has the power to make choices, so we can decide how we feel in any given circumstance. You bring to life what you create within your thoughts, so no scenario can exist unless your mind conjures it up. Taking responsibility for your reality allows you to create the kind of life you want.
3. Aim to be your best self.
Think about your best self. What are you like? The idea of becoming the most evolved and elevated version of yourself can seem unattainable—even impossible. We get so caught up in our daily lives that we become complacent; we become satisfied with the status quo. But you should constantly be under construction because there's always something to improve. Wake up every day, determined to change one aspect of how you live your life. Invest in your growing process, and channel the truest and greatest version of yourself to achieve life's goals.
4. Trust and hone your intuition.
Intuition is a powerful thing. It generally comes for a reason: to guide and support us. So when you're stuck at a crossroads, trust your instincts; don't ignore them. Most of our biggest mistakes are the result of allowing emotions to overrule logic—when we knew the right decision, but didn't listen. We all have an inner voice that is constantly trying to communicate with us, but it can be difficult to hear when we're surrounded by so much noise and chatter. To hone your intuition, get into the habit of quieting your mind and feeling more by thinking less. Doing so will bring peace, discipline, and clarity to your life.
5. Set wildly ambitious goals.
Setting goals is the first step towards achieving success, and forces you to live with intention. Dream of all the things you want to do, be, and have. We experience an enormous amount of mental clarity when we have aspirations and consciously work towards them. Your goals will serve as a constant reminder to keep moving forward, particularly when trials arise. So set your targets and pursue them diligently. The world's possibilities will only open up if you work for you.
