Onijah Robinson insists she doesn't have any mental health concerns, contrary to news reports.
The 33-year-old American woman went viral this year after flying to Pakistan to meet Nidal Ahmed Memon, a 19-year-old Pakistani national she allegedly married online. Robinson documented her experience on social media, eventually garnering worldwide attention and concerns about her mental state.
Several outlets reported that Memon’s family had rejected Robison, but she refused to return to her home in New York City. She allegedly camped outside the man’s apartment building for more than 24 hours and was reportedly placed under psychiatric care in a Pakistani hospital. Concerns grew after Robinson’s alleged son, Jeremiah Robinson, released a statement claiming his mother had bipolar disorder.
The Brooklyn-born woman addressed the allegations during a recent sit-down with Hot 97’s TT Torrez, confirming she was hospitalized in Pakistan for a blood disorder, not mental issues.
“I was just in the hospital because I was anemic and I was getting blood,” she told the Tap in with TT host. “When y’all see me taking pictures, I was in the hospital in Pakistan.”
Robinson also denied having a history of mental health problems, claiming her only chronic health issue was asthma. It’s unclear why Jeremiah made the bipolar claims; however, Robinson confirmed he was her son and that he lived with her in the Bronx. She also revealed she had a 10-year-old son who lives with his father.
“They both are well taken care of,” she said about her boys.
Robinson also took the time to address several reports about her purported marriage to Memon. She told Torrez she met the teen in 2023 when she was trying to start an e-commerce business that required phones and tablets. Robinson said she called AT&T for the devices, and Memon was the employee who helped her out.
“He was working for AT&T. He was the manager, over the phone,” she recalled. “And from there, we just started to bond.”
Robinson said Memon had kept her number and began reaching out on a regular basis.
“We spoke for maybe a month, and then we made it official,” she said. “A lot of FaceTiming, a lot of texting, a lot of time, period… After a year and a half, I finally took [the relationship] serious. I knew he was the one because I like the way he thinks. He had a lot of knowledge, prayed a lot.”
Robinson told Torrez that she and Memon got married through an online service, aptly called “Weddings Online.”
“It goes through the courts, a legit marriage in Utah,” she said about the alleged union.
Robinson also spoke about her and Memon’s age gap, admitting it was quite large.
“He was just my type… We have a long age difference,” she said. “He’s 21. No, he’s 20. He’s a young boy… He’s just really mature, you know? The court accepted it, so why not?”
Now that she’s back in the States, Robinson is looking to take advantage of her newfound fame. She said she’s doing a lot of interviews and promotions, and is in talks to develop a Lifetime movie about her saga.
“Before the fame, I was regular, but I always had that type of spark, that type of attention,” she said. “I’m getting to the bag, definitely for sure. I’m booked out, for real.”
As for Memon? Well, Robinson said he’s still overseas but wants to move to the U.S.
“He wants to invest. He’s on his way… He is coming,” she said. “Gotta get a visa, gotta get a passport. It’s real.”
