A Connecticut man is in custody after he broke into a closed restaurant and spent four days drinking liquor and eating food.

The New Haven Police Department reportedly found Louis Angel Ortiz asleep with a bottle of rum inside a local restaurant on Tuesday. Police were responding to reports of a robbery in progress when they discovered the 42-year-old man. After reviewing the establishment's security cameras, police allege that Ortiz broke into the building on Saturday.

"Officers learned Ortiz helped himself over the course of four days to the restaurant’s food, liquor, and beer. In addition to eating and drinking at the restaurant," the department said in an Instagram post. "Ortiz removed beverages and property from the building."

The business was closed due to the coronavirus outbreak, giving Ortiz free reign to do whatever he wanted inside the restaurant. Management estimates that Ortiz's binge resulted in thousands of dollars in lost products. His binge includes 70 bottles of liquor, which were either consumed or stolen. Ortiz is currently being held on a $12,500 bail on charges of burglary in the third degree, larceny in the third degree, and criminal mischief in the first degree. Ortiz also had an active warrant at the time of his arrest.
