About halfway through tonight's Democratic debate, which took place in Flint, Michigan, Hillary Clinton was asked how she plans to defeat Donald Trump if she ends up getting the presidential nomination. Shortly after she chimed in, Bernie Sanders made it clear that he's nowhere near out of the race, and that he had actually just won the Maine caucuses by a pretty huge margin.
While the numbers are not fully in yet, Sanders looks to have beat Clinton by a little less than 30% in Maine. To top it off, the turnout for Democrats was pretty high in Maine too.
"The awe-inspiring turnout meant too many had to wait in long lines to make their voices heard,"State Senator Justin Alfondsaid. "We need to have a conversation, once again, about the best way to nominate our presidential candidates, and ensure the process is easy and accessible to all."
Sanders wasn't able to speak in person—probably because of the debate—but seemed very optimistic in his written statement.
"I thank the people of Maine for their strong support," he said. "With another double-digit victory, we have now won by wide margins in states from New England to the Rocky Mountains and from the Midwest to the Great Plains. This weekend alone we won in Maine, Kansas and Nebraska."
On Tuesday Mississippi and Michigan will both have their Democratic primaries.
