Ill-Advised GOP Meeting at Gun Range Ends in Alleged Assault of Senior Citizen

This was a bad idea.

The GOP presidential candidates have all but come to blows with each other. From Donald Trump being accused of having "small hands" to Trump himself dragging Ted Cruz's wife into their Twitter slugfest, it's been ugly. GOP members from the Virgin Islands however allegedly came to actual physical violence, with police being called, during a meeting...at a gun range.

Mediaitereports the Republican Territorial Committee of the Virgin Islands met at the St. Croix gun range on Saturday. The gun range belongs to Virgin Islands Republican Territorial Committee Chairman John Canegata reportsThe Virgin Islands Consortium.

The meeting reportedly came at a time when the party was arguing over which delegates would represent the Virgin Islands at the Republican National Convention. Canegata had reportedly decided delegates elected in March weren't qualified and instead wanted to select the delegates himself. Mediaitereports over a dozen Republican Territorial Committee members are trying to sue Canegata for trying to go around the elected delegates.

A sign the meeting was going to go south? Canegata was reportedly using a gun cartridge as a gavel.

There are conflicting reports about the events of the meeting, but MediaitecitesTPM in saying elected delegate Gwen Brady was allegedly shoved to the floor during the meeting. However, a "colleague" filed a police report against Brady alleging she threw a phone at him.

Republican Territorial Committee Vice Chairman Herbert Schoenbohm corroborated the story of Brady being allegedly assaulted in an email to The Consortium Saturday. Schoenbohm reportedly wrote the meeting, "abruptly ended with an elected delegate and senior citizen woman being slammed against the wall and thrown to the floor because she objected to the gestapo-like tactics of the VI Chairman John Canegata." He said Brady was the woman assaulted and identified Fred Espinosa as the assaulter. Brady was reportedly crying afterwards.

Schoenbohm also said meetings will no longer be held at shooting ranges.
