As their brother campaigns for re-election in November’s midterms, the family of conservative Congressman Paul Gosar are urging Arizona residents to vote…for their brother’s Democratic opponent.
On Friday, six of Rep. Gosar’s siblings starred in a brutal political ad for David Brill, who is challenging Gosar in Arizona’s 4th District. The advert includes statements from Tim, Jennifer, Gaston, Joan, Grace, and David, who explain why Gosar shouldn’t keep the seat he’s held since 2013 and why they felt it was necessary to denounce their brother.
“If they care about health care, they care about their children’s health care, they would hold him to account,” Grace, a physician, says in the ad. “If they care about jobs, they would hold him to account.”
A medical interpreter named Jennifer adds: “If he actually cared about people in rural Arizona, I bet he’d be fighting for social security, for better access to health care.
“I think my brother has traded a lot of the values we had at our kitchen table,” Joan stated.
Though the ad was scathing, it wasn’t exactly surprising. Gosar’s siblings have denounced their brother’s political views in the past. Following the deadly 2017 Unite the Right rally, Gosar suggested the demonstration was “created by the left”—specifically multi-billionaire philanthropist George Soros—to undermine President Donald Trump. Seven of his siblings responded to his statements in an open letter published in the Daily Miner, writing:
We are aghast that Paul has sunk so low that he now spews the most despicable slander against an 87-year-old man without a shred of proof, and then doesn’t even have the guts or decency to apologize?
Gosar responded to the ad in a tweet Saturday afternoon.
