PROMO: ‘It’s On Us’ Seeks To Engage Students and Combat Sexual Assault on College Campuses

Founded by the Obama administration in 2014, It’s On Us continues its mission to develop the next generation of social activists who mobilize their campuses to put an end to sexual assault.

In the United States, 20 percent of women, 13 percent of men, and 25 percent of trans and gender-nonconforming students will experience some form of sexual assault during their college career. To squash these staggering figures, It’s On Us has developed a simple mission: combat sexual assault on college campuses.

On the heels of its 4-year anniversary (It’s On Us was founded by the Obama administration back in 2014), the initiative remains steadfast in its efforts; implementing programs at higher education institutions across the country that teach students—specifically male students—about issues related to bystander intervention, consent, and ways to support survivors. In doing so, It’s On Us accomplishes more than provoking necessary conversation; it is empowering, and by extension grooming, the next generation of social activists.

During the 2017-18 school year alone, the number of campus organization chapters has grown to over 250—a statistic we can all celebrate. But there’s still more work to be done. You don’t have to be a student to help make college campuses safer. Consider donating to It’s On Us today, with the proceeds going to programs and organizers that work diligently to combat sexual assault and promote a culture of sexual respect across college campuses in the U.S.
