A man was seen climbing London's tallest building, the Shard, on Monday morning. Metropolitan Police first responded to reports of someone free-climbing the building at 5:15 a.m. BST, as onlookers posted videos of him scaling the landmark. Police and ambulances arrived at the scene, while a drone was also spotted.
The man, who was not named, was subsequently taken into the building and talked to police. No one was hurt, and the climber was not arrested. "We dealt with an incident at the Shard earlier this morning involving a member of the public who climbed the building," a spokesman for the asset management company responsible for operating the Shard said in a statement. "The person was safely apprehended and detained by police. Some areas around the base of the Shard that were closed to the public as a safety precaution have now been partially re-opened."
This isn't the first time someone has attempted climb the Shard, as YouTuber CassOnline made it all the way to the apex in 2017. Previously, Greenpeace climbed the Shard in 2013 to protest continued oil drilling in the Arctic.
