The creator behind the labradoodle, Wally Conron, isn't proud of what he introduced to the world. While many would be quick to call the cross-breed adorable, Conron sees the dogs as anything but. "I opened a Pandora box and released a Frankenstein monster," he said during a recent episode of the Australian Broadcasting Coporation's podcast.
Conron was responsible for breeding the first-ever labradoodle after a blind woman requested a guide dog that her husband wouldn't be allergic to. "Why people are breeding them today, I haven't got a clue," he explained. Following the burst in popularity for labradoodles, a crossbeeding craze took over and resulted in designer dogs such as cockapoos, shuh poos, and puggles.
His biggest concern with labradoodles, however, is their behavior. "I find that the biggest majority are either crazy or have a hereditary problem," he said. In response, Amy Murphy of the Australian Labradoodle Club of America, which is a real thing apparently, said, "All dogs are crazy." She added, "They are quirky and fun-loving." Murphy also said they are a "hearty breed," but they don't take too kindly to being left alone for too long.
Twitter users have had a lot of fun with Conron's dramatic comments, although some took offense at the suggestion labradoodles were a bit unstable. Check out some of the best responses below.
