According to CNN, at least 10 people were shot at an apartment complex in San Bernardino Sunday night. Three of the victims are "extremely critical,” according to San Bernardino Police spokesman Captain Richard Lawhead.
The shooting comes three years after the mass shooting and attempted bombing that left 14 people dead and 22 injured at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino. There are no suspects in custody for last night’s shooting.
Officers answered a call at around 10:45 PT on Sunday evening, and arrived to find "at least 10 victims down” following the incident that police think involved multiple shooters.
"We believe that there was an exchange of gunfire," Lawhead told reporters. "I can tell you multiple shots were fired, I don't want to guess how many.... We do have some people that have been transported to the station for investigative purposes so we hope that they will yield information for us."
Both handguns and rifles were used in the shooting, but no weapons have been recovered.
"My brother-in-law could hear bullets flying past our house, he was outside at the time of the shooting," resident Alysa Marie told CNN. "About five minutes later the helicopter was circling around our street (Lynwood), talking on the loudspeaker saying to put down the weapons, for the people who were on the ground to get up and get to safety and to let the law enforcement do their job."
Lawhead did mention gang activity in the area, but did not draw a clear connection between it and the shooting.
