Snowy Bigfoot tracks in Ukraine.

Lovers of Bigfoot have had their hopes dashed thousands of times, I would know. And on that front, Friday appears to be no different.

The Washington State Department of Transportation shared this latest "picture" of the fabled-but-hopefully-real cryptid. That agency uploaded an image from a traffic camera that appears to show a squatch splotch. They also enhanced the image to make it look like it could be a humanoid creature walking upright, possibly even a human. Feel free to make your best guess.

“Sasquatch spotted!!!” said the author of the WSDOT tweet. “I’m not superstitious... just a little stitious. Have you noticed something strange on our Sherman Pass/SR 20 webcam before? If you look closely by the tree on the left there looks to be something ... might be Sasquatch... We will leave that up to you!"

Oregon Live points out that the agency's Twitter feed is "known for irreverence" which is unfortunate in this instance. Save that for the poison berry PSAs and alerts about missing hikers.

The tweet's replies were littered with very bad political jokes, but some sleuths attempted to take a guess at what it was.

Well if it's a Bigfoot it must be a slow one. Cause he's still there... pic.twitter.com/eLHiQNFVJQ

The account did go on to respond to a number of speculative responses:

I can confirm that it is not a shadow or the tree trunk... there is a story behind it...

Additionally, the official WSDOT account for Snoqualmie Pass (also in Washington state) got in on this action. Don't feel free to speculate about what's shown in the video (I mean, just watch), but do feel free to also speculate about whether or not it's the same person running both these accounts.

I think Bigfoot is making the rounds across our mountain passes. @wsdot_east showed him on Sherman Pass the other day and now he is on the wildlife overcrossing on I-90 just east of Snoqualmie Pass. #doyoubelieve pic.twitter.com/gysrH5wG2r

In any case, there does seem to be something going on here; it just doesn't appear to be about finding Bigfoot. Just like Mr. Peanut's death, there better be an eventual payoff to this publicity stunt. Something akin to a Super Bowl ad, but on WSDOT's budget:

Going back up in February with snowshoes... the truth will be revealed!

It is a mysterious creature... we are waiting on it...

The camera is connected via cell reception. In that area, it is very limited, any higher resolution and it would not be able to accommodate the bandwidth. I will be making the trip up there in February with our signals crew who manages the camera to investigate.

It is 100% not a tree trunk. There is a story behind this and it is not the first sighting of something to appear in front of this camera. Years ago an inflatable alien was in front of it and moved around, then there was a Christmas tree with battery operated lights, now this!

Sorry fellow squatchers, but you already know you get used to the disappointment.
