A black labrador retriever went on a failed joy ride in its owner’s car.

The Florida dog hopped into the car while it was running, put it in reverse, and did donuts for an hour in his owner’s cul-de-sac, CNN reports. A neighbor, Anne Sabol, witnessed the incident and didn’t know who was behind the wheel when she first saw the car.

“At first I thought I saw somebody backing up, but then they kept going, and I'm like, ‘OK, what're they doing?’” she told CNN affiliate WPBF.

The cops arrived, and then the fire department. Authorities watched as the driving dog continued to ride in circles in the cul-de-sac. During that time, no one was hurt and the car remained undamaged, though it did smash a neighbor’s mailbox and hit some garbage cans. After that, the car slowed down, and when the police opened the door, the black lab jumped out of the driver’s seat, its tail reportedly wagging.

Sabol said she was thinking, “‘OK, this is turning weird.’”

The dog’s owner—who asked to maintain his anonymity—had left his car running in the street when his dog got in and changed the gear, the police said. Sabol was amazed: “They should give that thing a license.”
