If you make a name as a lifestyle guru, you're inviting people to judge the way you live. But even with that caveat, it's hard to watch the extreme vitriol that folks are slinging at B. Smith and her husband following the revelations that her husband has a girlfriend.
Smith's husband, Dan Gasby, has been fending off criticism after it was widely reported that he has a girlfriend. Gasby sought out the companionship of another woman after his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013, explicitly as a means of coping with the added stress of caring for his wife. Gasby has been open about his relationship in recent months and the arrangement was detailed in a video and article by The Washington Post.
“I have been married to a black woman for 26 years,” Gasby said of his critics who think he's flaunting a white woman around his sick wife. “I have a PhD in black love.”
Plenty of the couple's followers were not having any of it, which led Gasby to lash out on Facebook.
"To the idiots and ignorant people calling for my arrest and saying B is or has ever been abused I only wish someone in your immediate family has Alzheimer’s so you can see feel and experience the pain of millions of people across this country so you can know first hand what it’s like to care 24/7/365 for someone who can no longer care for themselves!" he said. "I love my wife but I can’t let her take away my life!"
Fans are still mulling over whether they agree with a decision made by a grown man watching his long-time wife steadily deteriorate.
