After closing out Governors Ball 2017 and dropping a surprise EP, Wiz Khalifa continues his winning streak by starring in Gap’s new film, Bridging The Gap, alongside a star-studded cast, including Priyanka Chopra, Yara Shahidi, Jasmine Sanders, Alek Wek, and more. The film, which shows the cast singing and dancing to Boney M.’s “Sunny,” was directed by newly named Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue magazine, Edward Enninful, and highlights the different faces of America by showing each personality against the iconic Gap white T-shirt.

“I love the optimistic American style that Gap celebrates and the simplicity of the basic white T-shirt that allows you to be yourself,” Enninful said. “This project is about authenticity and people living their truths.”

Khalifa, known for his own unique style, says he was drawn to the project because of the cast’s diversity. “Each one of us came from such a different place,” he said via email. “It was my first time working with Edward and the rest of the group, but everyone was so open and positive.”

As for championing diversity within entertainment, Khalifa thinks there’s always room for more acceptance, love and positivity. “I think of fashion, TV, music and entertainment as platforms to showcase and express diversity—both for influencers and for the masses,” he said.

Khalifa adds that maintaining individuality is what’s most important in music right now. “[It’s] for sure always a priority in my music and all my businesses, from clothing collaborations to my mobile video game,” he said. “If you try to be someone else and stray away from your true core, not only is it obvious to the fans, but it no doubt affects the quality of the project.”

What’s Khalifa’s go-to outfit to express his own confidence? “Can never go wrong with jeans and a button-down party shirt,” he said.
