Calik Denim took to Amsterdam for their second 'Ever Evolving Talks' to discuss sustainable solutions for the future of fashion.

Discussions on sustainability have been at the forefront of the fashion industry recently as climate politics dominate the news and drive society to make a conscious effort to reduce our carbon emissions to better combat climate change. With so many fast fashion brands dominating the industry, responsible design and distribution have become a hot topic amongst some big brands, retailers, and up and coming designers. To further drive the conversation amongst the fashion industry, Ever Evolving Talks by Calik Denim invited industry insiders to spotlight topics such as the implementation of blockchain, GEN Z consumers, climate change, and responsible fashion.

The event was fronted by a selection of speakers from various industries to highlight how each can, and will play a role within a sustainable future for the industry. First up with Matt Britton who connected the dots between the Millenial & Gen Z consumer culture and business trends of tomorrow. Jessi Baker, Founder and CEO of Provenance showcased the ways in which blockchain can play a pivotal role within the fashion supply chain, offering complete transparency from material sourcing to manufacture and consumer.

Driving the conversation towards an industry that is more circular in nature, Bert van Son took the stage to discuss his brand Mud Jeans. His talk highlighted the ways in which larger brands can do more to make their supply chain transparent, while also being as sustainable and responsibly manufactured as possible. Fashion's female newcomers -Tamsin Blanchard, Priya Ahluwalia, Bethany Williams and Imogen Wright - then took the reigns to discuss responsible female leadership and the ways in which they reuse materials and preloved product to bring their designs to life. Former NFL Player and NASA Astronaut Leland Devon Melvin rounded off the occasion highlighting the ways in which climate change is changing our planet, and how NASA is doing their part to reduce waste.

Speaking on the event, Calik Denim CEO Fatih Dogan said: “Now in its second year, Ever Evolving Talks by Calik Denim has become a platform where we synthesize and present different points of view, experiences and the future over the course of one inspiring and thought-provoking day. We touch on many different areas such as the future, our planet, innovation, new technologies and sustainability, with a focus on new generations and consumer behaviour, global trends and collaborations. The event welcomes audiences from both denim and other international sectors. Anyone who is part of – or touches – the world of fashion world can participate. Brands, garment manufacturers, suppliers, the press, academicians and students…Therefore, we believe in the importance of this event. Its values will advance both the sector and the world in which we live.”

The third instalment of Ever Evolving Talks by Calik Denim is set to be held in Amsterdam on October 20th 2020.
