I just got back from a fresh $17 (plus a $5 tip) buzz at Rudy's Barbershop at the Ace Hotel on 29th Street in Manhattan and boy am I feeling spiffy. Even the doorman said to me when I came back from my lunch break with my new haircut, "Noah, man, lookin' spiffy." And boy was it easy. No wait. Lots of chairs. Cool atmosphere. Friendly staff. No pretentious bullshit attitude or waxed mustaches. I'm more than a little fussy when it comes to getting my wig trimmed, but Kala was patient, attentive and she fucking nailed it. Very thorough, meaning there were no long hairs left behind my ears for me to trim (I nearly lost a lobe that way after my last barbershop fail). A+++ service, will come back again. Buzz cuts are $17, haircuts are $40. Look for Rudy's second NYC location to open in Williamsburg soon.
