We're only half way through 2014, and it's already been a notable year of impressive architecture. From houses built among others in urbanized neighborhoods to those that are secluded on a private beach, these houses are sure to make it on your list of dream homes. One thing's for sure: the architects behind these incredible new structures really outdid themselves when it came to designing places to live. Architect: Fougeron Architecture
Location: Big Sur, Calif.

Tucked away 250 feet above the Pacific Ocean, Fall House perches over the incredible California landscape. The three-bedroom house provides a beautiful view from a balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows. The back of the house faces away from the ocean, offering a private retreat from the outside world.

Location: Geneva, Switzerland

Every space inside Cascades House in Confignon offers plenty of light due to the immense windows along both sides of the building. The home was built on the slope of an orchard. Local Architecture did not want to take away from the original setting, so they designed the house to fit in with its natural surroundings. The three-tiered structure has an open corridor that spans the length of the house and connects its floors together.

Location: Singapore

Belimbing Avenu is a three-story house divided into two structures by a small pond. One structure includes a staircase along its side with an intricate bookshelf that creates space for the living room. A timber bridge crosses the pond, leading to the rest of the house. Light naturally flows in from the timber trellis above, and there is also an open roof terrace that overlooks the rest of the neighborhood.

Location: Playa Senoritas, Peru

The Cristal House was designed with a large glass box in mind. This explains the floor-to-ceiling windows facing the waters of Peru. The space also includes a retractable roof that covers an indoor terrace. A hot tub and pool out back overlook the sea. Inside, a staircase connects all three floors of the house and also leads to the terrace and the six-car garage. On the third level, there is a glass bridge that connects the left and right sides of the house.

Location: Los Angeles

House Over a Wall, designed by Bestor Architecture, is separated from the rest of the street by a huge concrete wall. This wall allows residents to enjoy the Los Angeles weather in the privacy of their own home. On the second floor, there is a balcony that overlooks the city. The house's exterior walls are made from cement with blackened wood acting as a second coat.

Location: Gumusluk, Turkey

Located on a hillside, Gumus Su Villa offers an amazing view as well as a tranquil atmosphere. All of the rooms are divided in separate units, providing open space between each structure that allows cool air to flow naturally throughout the whole house. The courtyard, swimming pool, and sun terrace are all shaded by a bamboo canopy.

Location: Ko Samui, Thailand

Marc Gerritsen designed The Naked House for his own personal use in Koh Samui, Thailand. He built a house that offers an ideal place to meditate next to nature, a getaway from big-city living. The five-story house was built in a quiet area with a breathtaking view and includes a pool, a freestanding open-air bathroom, a large bedroom with a swing bed, and a steam room.

Location: Puyehue, Chile

Squella envisioned this lake house in Chile to have no walls, and from a distance it seems as if they succeeded. Made entirely from glass and wood, the lake house blends in perfectly with the forest. The minimal design gives residents an all-around view of the forest, sky, and lake.

Location: Cundinamarca, Colombia

One side of Casa 7A offers a beautiful mountain view while the other is filled with several patios for relaxing. During the day, the swimming pool and terrace areas are permanently exposed to the sun.

Location: Blue Mounds, Wis.

Blending in with its natural surroundings, this house looks as if it's rising from the Earth. The structure includes three courtyards, a staircase in the dining room that leads to a glassed-in observatory, and floor-to-ceiling windows. The house was built out of sustainable and highly durable materials so it could endure the severe weather conditions and fluctuations of the Midwest.

Location: Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea

This family home is a wooden structure reinforced with concrete. The distinct exterior design only emphasizes the remarkable interior. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are visibly connected once inside the house, but they are spatially divided by changes in floor height. The master bedroom opens towards a bright red exterior wall. As an added bonus, there's also a room with a netted floor where residents can lay down and stargaze through the sky roof.

Location: Hainan, China

House 10 was designed to provide a horizontal view of the ocean. The house has both Western and Chinese kitchens and includes five bedrooms, four of which offer seaside views from their windows. Other amenities include a swimming pool, spa pool, garden, walkways roaming every inch of the house, and extremely comfortable living arrangements.

Location: Phan Thiet, Vietnam

The Oceanique Villas are raised 1.8 meters from beach level in order to create a more private area for residents. The whole construction consists of two 3-bedroom villas and one 4-bedroom villa, each with its own private swimming pool. Inside each villa, there are floor-to-ceiling windows and areas with open roofs that provide natural light. The master bedroom opens up to the infinity pool, and even the bathroom has a private garden and Jacuzzi.

This two-story family home has an ongoing theme of openings and doorframes that are shaped like the exterior of the house. The walls are lined with timber panels, and in one corner, there is a wooden staircase. The dining room is located in the center of the home, creating a nexus for the family to gather.

Location: Whistler, Canada

Located in the snowy mountains of Canada, Casa Flag is the perfect spot to warm up in while still enjoying the blankets of flurries outside. While the home is still in the building stage, the plan includes covering the base in a metallic surface so that it appears to be burying itself into the snow. Resting above the metallic first floor is a glassed-in area that will house a heated pool.

Location: Tsukubamirai, Ibaraki

The House Reflecting Ripples was designed to resemble rippled water through its white, layered facade. The first layer acts as a roof for the entrance; the second layer houses a patio area; and the third layer contains the rooms. Both the interior and exterior are white, giving it a very sleek and clean feel. The only windows found on the building are the ones located at the back of the house. At night, lights illuminate the structure, making it look even more like moving water.

This split-level home in Hong Kong was reconstructed to enhance the sense of space, which is very limited in this area. The home has a sunken kitchen that looks into the garage through a glass wall. Right next to the kitchen is an elevated dining table. The home also includes an outdoor pool and a spacious bedroom on the second floor.

Location: Tokyo

A stainless steel fence that looks like mesh cloth surrounds this house, insuring complete privacy for residents. During different times of the day, the fence changes in patterns and appearance, making it a beautiful sight from the outside. The interior of the home includes a wooden staircase and sliding wooden doors that connect the kitchen downstairs to another room.

Location: Tarifa, Spain

Besides the fact that Tarifa House is absolutely breathtaking, James & Mau Arquitectura built it with Spain's high humidity and hot temperatures in mind. The structure includes an open plan for easy airflow and ventilation, as well as metal mesh wrapped around the house to keep the building cool. Tarifa House is composed of indoor and outdoor spaces overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. A wide outdoor patio offers views of the sea and the African coastline.

The two-story family home created by 4PLIUS Architects has the best of both worlds because it's bordered by both the city and nature. Surrounded by many trees, residents can live in peace. Massive walls protect residents' privacy while large windows offer them scenic views.

At the right angle, the rimless pool placed above Mirage will start to merge with the natural waters surrounding it, making the house disappear into the landscape. Located on the third largest island of the Cyclades, a group of Greek islands, the one-story three-bedroom getaway offers panoramic views of the Aegean Sea.

Location: Cambridge, Mass.

Burrowed in the early 19th century urban area of Cambridge, Mass., House With Big Window was renovated to be energy and cost efficient. The building is wrapped in translucent plastic panels, providing insulation and allowing natural light to touch every corner of the house. Inside, the house is accented with mahogany beams, stairs, and ceiling-to-floor bookshelves.

Location: Oconomowoc, Wis.

Redaction House, designed by Johnsen Schmaling, sits right on the edge of a small suburban lake. This small, quaint home has a spacious living room that provides a striking view of the lake. From the front, it looks like a two-story structure, but from the linear walkway formed by the brick walls on each side, it's possible to see the third story.

Location: Bangkok

Building around a lush garden, FOS integrated Divergence House with the trees already on site. The house is connected by bridges and staircases, and you can see inside the spacious rooms through glass walls. A foyer and living space are located towards the front of the house, while the dining room and semi-indoor swimming pool with fiber-optic lighting are in a more secluded area in the back.

Location: Vancouver, Canada

Esquimalt House, a single-family home, is located on a steep lot, which helps airflow through the space. Esquimalt fills the roles of a home, a place of business, and a place to entertain guests while also overlooking downtown Vancouver and the Lion's Gate Bridge.
