Dodge's Super Bowl Ad Is Better Than Most Menswear Lookbooks

Leave the "heritage" to the auto industry.

Yes, the Super Bowl took place last night. Girls tuned in for Beyoncé, guys wanted to watch the game, and men's style connoisseurs were treated to a lookbook so fresh they all asked, "when does this season drop?" The "lookbook" was actually a Dodge commercial, an ode to hard-working farmers (set to the words of Paul Harvey) that featured some of the crispiest Americana looks. The Baltimore Ravens escaped a narrow defeat from the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, but #menswear received its style inspiration for fall/winter 2013 and beyond.

We've compiled more than a handful of closely-styled images to prove that Dodge's representation of rural America isn't only on par with menswear's obsession with American heritage, it might be better. So, who does Americana best, your favorite clothing brand, or the auto industry? Click through the story to make your decision.

A Work Shirt in its Natural Environment

If you work, you need a work shirt. Simple as that. While everyone is rocking a chambray shirt or some sort of rugged equivalent, let the farmer show you how its done. Buzz Rickson, Filson Japan and Roy Slaper of Roy Jeans all have provided images of cool, faded work shirts. But peep that huge tractor the Dodge commercial offers. Everyone wanted to drive a tractor as a kid, not get painted up in "vintage" dirt.

The Style Grandfather

Old Guys can be stylish, believe it or not. What's a lookbook without an old man who actually lives the lifestyle? It doesn't get much more authentic than that. Left Field offered a pretty convincing rendition of the "cool old guy," but the farmer's quilted vest gives the Dodge commercial the edge.

Functional Denim, Canvas Jackets, and Cool Hats

This guy is cool. Not only does he look like the Marlboro Man, but his canvas jacket, worn-in denim, and awesome hat all serve a purpose. Buzz Ricksonoffered up a cool shot of a guy wearing a similar outfit, but we'll take the hay bail tossing farmer any day.

The Necessary All-Denim Look

There is a reason why raw denim has made a resurgence: people realized how cool hard-working folks look in their worn-in blue jeans. So, every lookbook needs a good all-denim shot, even if some folks are afraid to rock the "Texas tuxedo." Levi's Vintage Clothing and Kapital do the all-denim look best, but the farmer is hanging out with his dog. Can't beat man's best friend.

Making a Flannel Look Better than Lumberjack Wear

Farmers might make flannel look the coolest. Flannel and a pair of denim is a cold-weather necessity. For some reason, dudes stay posted in barns or with a handy rope. Left Field and Pendleton gave fresh renditions of this look, and it might be a close tie to the Dodge commercial. But, if you're a fan of sitting off the back of a pickup truck, you might lean towards Dodge.
