New Orleans-based George Dureau is an enormously talented, yet sadly not-well-known photographer. Dureau was one of the first photographers to capture the nude male form, in a raw, compassionate way. He Influenced Robert Mapplethorpe and his photography, which Dureau said refined many of his original ideas. He photographed his friends and acquaintances, many whom were casualties of war or outcasts. If you’re in the NYC area check out Dureau's work at Higher Pictures gallery, they are running a Dureau show until July 13, 2012.
