Wildly offensive clothing is a dime a dozen nowadays. From tops that look like concentration camp uniforms to blood-stained sweatshirts that reference the 1970 school shooting at Kent State, it seems like many companies are purposely using shock factor to gain publicity for their brand. How else would you explain the complete disregard for decency and commonsense?

The latest purveyor of distasteful apparel is a major mall chain in the Philippines that is catching heat this week for stocking a T-shirt that reads “It’s Not Rape. Snuggle With a Struggle.”

Really?

SM Supermalls, the company that was selling this item in its boy’s section, released an apologetic statement that referred to the message as “unacceptable." Reps also said they were unaware of the product until its offensive message went viral on social media. A Facebook photo of the “Snuggle” tee was shared almost 4,500 times and liked by close to 1,700 people.

“We have immediately pulled out all the T-shirts of the consignor that distributes them,” the statement read. “Appropriate action will be taken to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for informing us.”

The company alleges that a company buyer was solely responsible for the stocked T-shirts. Here’s hoping that brands take a little bit more caution in the future.
