The Style Wins and Fails at the 2015 MTV VMAs

The MTV VMAs are anything but boring when it comes to style.

None

The MTV VMAs are anything but dull when it comes to celebrity style. The iconic on-stage moments aside, plenty of stars have lent their likenesses to the show's storied style history—which features such highlights as Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's literal take on double denim, and Lil Wayne's sagging leopard jeggings.

With Miley Cyrus hosting tonight's ceremonies, you can bet "crazy" is going to be the starting line when it comes to the looks seen on the red carpet. That's not to say that you should expect a lack of great outfits. As last year's ceremony proved, there's bound to be some style that's sure to catch your eye—in a good way, of course. Besides, with Kanye receiving his prestigious "Video Vanguard" award, you can expect that one of the ceremony's most iconic guests is sure to impress.

Leave your expectations (and your taste level) at the door, these are The Style Wins and Fails at the 2015 MTV VMAs.

Win: Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz

Yes they look like they just ran amok through Topman, but considering the sartorial track record of these two, this is actually a marked improvement (we're willing to overlook that fedora).

Win: A$AP Rocky

Coming through in the full-look Gosha Rubchinskiy? What a flourish for Pretty Flacko.

Fail: Nick Jonas

Nick is the one Jonas brother that's been pretty consistent when it comes to the red carpet's good graces. But bruh, aren't you hot in all that leather?

Win: Jeremy Scott

If this was anybody else, it would be a fail. But for Scott (who also designed this year's edition of the iconic Moonman) this is par for the course.

Win: The Weeknd

The Weeknd recently made headlines for showcasing Yeezy Season 1 in GQ. He's proving more and more that he's a style icon we can't sleep on. Both his camo field jacket and jeans come direct from Mr. Completely's Fall 2015 collection.

Fail: Billy Ray Cyrus

When we talk about the inherent dopeness of “dad style,” we're not thinking of Lenny Kravitz and Steven Tyler.

Win: Miguel

Miguel stays on his “I wanna be Jimi Hendrix” flow.

Fail: John Legend

A V-neck tee with a formal jacket is always going to be trash—and those tails and leather pants aren't making it look any better.

Oh, and hi Chrissy.

Win: Pharrell

Considering the VMAs' history with double denim, this is the best iteration yet.

Fail: Tyga

Tyga is pulling his best Yeezy Season 1 impersonation tonight.

Win: Vic Mensa

Its a look that's making a statement in more ways that one. While there's a lot going on, the message—an homage to activist Assata Shakur—is more relevant than ever.

Fail: Charlamagne Tha God

Is Charlamagne wearing a backpack? Is he wearing suspenders? Your guess is as good as ours.

Win: Justin Bieber

Justin came through in head-to-toe Saint Laurent Paris and a new haircut. Jury's out on the swoop, but he's rocking it well in this photo.

Win: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

Kanye's clearly committed to his personal brand, repping Yeezy Season 1 from head to toe. For those who might not rememeber, Ye's wearing the look that he put on Ian Connor back in February—swapping the Yeezy 950 boots for a pair of Yeezy Boost 350s. Naturally, Kim wore Balmain.

Bonus Win: Taylor Swift and the “Bad Blood” Crew

Um, hi ladies.
