Victory Journal, one of our 30 Indie Magazines You Need to Know, has made their mark by showcasing athleticism through stunning imagery, rather than just words and statistics. For their fifth installment, Doubleday and Cartwright decided to make "The Water Issue," celebrating the liquid element's presence and power during the heart of summer. It's a gorgeous collection of images, both in color and black and white, depicting the many ways we consciously and unconsciously interact with water. In their words,

Victory Journal #5, 'The Water Issue,' offers diverse visions of the sporting life aquatic from Jamie Brisick’s wonderfully personal profile of one-eyed surfing visionary, Derek Hynd, to Mickey Duzyj's illustrated history of Orlando 'El Duque' Hernandez’s perilous escape from Castro’s Cuba ultimate triumph with the New York Yankees. Add Chadwick Tyler's arresting nudes (featuring models Ali Michael and Julia Hafstrom in Florida's wild marshlands), Anthony Blasko's tight-cropped portfolio of cliffdivers frozen against the Boston sky and Kanoa Zimmerman's undersea black and whites and you get Victory's most ambitious issue to date—a worthy tribute to the liquid element.
