Montreal-based artist Jean-Pierre Seguin has created an interesting collection of World War II assemblages using thousands of little army men. Seguin glues the figure to a surface and handpaints each one, stepping back to see the work as his viewer would. The finished works form portraits of wartime vehicles, flags, and historical figures including Dwight D. Eisenhower, John. F. Kennedy, and volunteer nurses.
Seguin used toy soldiers for their obvious connection to the theme of the work, but it's how he paints them that makes these works more interesting to us. They seem like digital collages from far away, but a closer look reveals that meticulous planning and a lot of patience went into creating each piece.
