As we stride into the colder months of the year, legacy designer Raf Simons once again takes the helm at Fred Perry for their latest collaborative collection driven by culture.
Fred Perry has kept the Laurel Wreath under the spotlight recently as they celebrate their longstanding heritage and status as a subcultural icon with a series of community outreaches such as their tennis tournament, and big-name collaborations with the likes of MASTERMIND World and END. The ongoing partnership between Raf Simons and Fred Perry has delivered some of the brand's most exciting collections, with each season becoming more daring and experimental, never failing to showcase classic silhouettes in an exciting new light.
These design foundations are maintained for their latest collaboration as polo shirts, t-shirts, sweats, and outerwear are framed with bold photographic print applications and updated hardware branding. In what can only be described as a natural exhibition of the subcultural space Fred Perry inhabits, this collection taps British photographers Gavin Watson and George Plemper, bringing their photographs of peers, music, and coming of age to create a true visual representation of the brand's heritage.
Raf's chosen colour palette gives the photographs - which range in size throughout the collection from all over, to patchwork application - new life, with exciting green and pink hues seated alongside safer black and white options. Shape has been reinterpreted across several pieces, with oversized silhouettes and dropped shoulders appearing as signatures of Raf's arsenal. Perhaps one of the more subtle details of the collection is the iconic Laurel Wreath which has gone from an embroidered logo to a piece of silver hardware that appears in a variety of applications throughout the full collection, turning the statement branding into an elegant accessory.
