Louis Vuitton debuted its latest menswear release, and instead of showcasing Virgil Abloh's detailed aesthetic, the collection embodies the technical components of the acclaimed designer's creative process.
Titled 'Staples Edition,' the collection offers what its name suggests—tailored essentials for men. Abloh's precision and keen eye for detail are brought to the forefront, with the subtle, neutral color palette amplifying the everyday essence of the garments.
"Inspired by the idea of wardrobe staples, the new line refines the essential garments and accessories that form the foundation of a man’s dress components," the company's press release reads. "Virgil Abloh amplifies cuts, techniques and fabrications in the creation of the ultimate wardrobe staple, employing the finest cottons, cashmere, denim, and leather."
The garments are trademarked with Louis Vuitton emblems, which Abloh used to make reference to the fundamental nature of the line. The creative director branded "LV" on materials such as metal staples to note its utility as an office supply. Other branding elements include a leather label attached to a carabiner with a visual description of how to maintain each piece, and LV stitches woven into single buttons.
The collection contains a wide-range of pieces, including a selection of coats, blazers, rain jackets, crewnecks, flared trousers, denim pieces, cargo pants, and more. A few key men's accessories are also included, ranging from hats to key chains.
Since ascending to the helm of Louis Vuitton menswear, Abloh has received applause from nearly every corner of the fashion industry. Although he has been the subject of plagiarism claims, and denounced for his Michael Jackson tribute during Louis Vuitton's runway show, the streetwear designer has only continued to amplify the popularity of his designs.
Louis Vuitton's latest offering is scheduled to launch in May.
