Among the frantic New York Fashion Week happenings and parties, a subdued and mindful fashion moment took place in Chelsea. Marina Ambramović wrote a touching note about the meaning behind her work for the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2016 runway presentation which occurred yesterday, Sept. 11.

Ambramović helmed the French fashion label's New York Fashion Week debut, working with the brand's creative director, Riccardo Tisci. An image of the note was shared by Carine Roitfeld via her Instagram account. A very influential artist in her own right, Ambramović brought her intense focus to create a somber yet respectful runway show.

The overall theme of the show was love, she says in her note to Tisci. "As the artistic director, I want to create something respectful and humble." Citing the location, music, and the use of recycled materials for the show, Ambramović highlights key aspects of the impactful runway presentation. Feeling that she had a "great responsibility" to not only the Givenchy label, but to larger sense of awareness about fashion's ability to draw attention to history and change, Ambramović gave the already momentous occasion an added sense of timeliness.
