New York Fashion Week Gets A New Look

None

Let's uncross some wires shall we? The fashion element of New York Fashion Week is pretty clear. Designers make clothing and put it on the runway. But there's the whole other business side of things with sponsorships and visibility when it comes time for those shows. We've long known the global fashion weeks to come complete with the words "Mercedes-Benz" in front of them, whether we actually mention them or not. But the automotive company is no longer the primary auto sponsor of the event. Lexus has jumped on board to fill the void, according to Fashionista..

There are some other changes as well as the Fashionista story lays out: the issue of the logos. Recently, the CFDA debuted an orange and blue logo and just yesterday a newer, minimal logo also popped up. So what is going on there? Apparently, the orange and blue logo is meant to stand for the all-encompassing event, including shows that don't happen at the official WME-IMG venues Skylight Clarkson Square and Skylight at Moynihan Station (two Skylights!), which also includes NYFW: Men's. The new barebones logo is meant to signify those events specific to WME-IMG. In short: separate sponsors for separate fashion weeks have separate logos. Simple as that it seems.

It's a bit confusing at first and if we're keeping it real, it doesn't really affect anyone's viewing of these shows. But money is money and sponsors are sponsors. Compare and contrast the new logos if you'd like. The new one is pretty sharp, though maybe a bit TOO minimal. I do like the inclusion of "The Shows." It feels very official.
