For some reason, the CFDA didn't announce this along with the rest of the nominees earlier this week and decided to drop the news yesterday that Pharrell is receiving the 2015 CFDA Fashion Icon Award. We're not exactly sure why, but the CFDA lists the reasons as: "The American singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer, and fashion designer's unique style has earned him a reputation for being one of the world's most recognizable trend-setters." CFDA President (and real-life former princess if you were not aware) Diane von Furstenberg said, "If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell, not just for his looks and sense of style but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not seduced by him."
Wow, okay then, do you, DVF. But that was a very sexually charged statement. Though, has anyone actually been seduced by Pharrell? I was under the impression that dude was completely asexual and did not possess any human emotions whatsoever. Among the dubious trends that Pharrell has been responsible for: fools on the subway in hats they have no right to wear, suits with shorts (jury's still out on that one), being reflective on the red carpet and a rainbow of Adidas Superstars. All of those are pretty dicey, but, to the outside world, Pharrell is stylish *barfs*. However, the CFDA isn't the outside world. Whatever. Anyway, he joins the storied ranks of Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Johnny Depp, Kate Moss and many others with this "honor."
