Ever since she was a teenager, Alexandra Transer had dreams of one day becoming a model and refused to let anything stand in her way of reaching that goal—including her short height.

At age 17, she enrolled herself in a modeling school, where she was told her 5’4” frame was not up to industry standards. But rather than accept defeat, Transer, now 30 years old, did some research and eventually discovered the Ilizarov apparatus: a surgically attached device that would lengthen her legs.

Though extremely painful and costly (more than $9,000), the procedure did increase her height by almost two-and-half inches through a process that required turning screws in her legs four times a day. Because she is still not at her preferred height, she told the Mirror she hopes to have at least two more procedures done before 2018.

At least she’s persistent.

"I’ll probably be told I'm too old to be a model by then," Transer told the Mirror, "but I’ll dye my hair blonde and at least I will look and feel like one."

Let's hope she stops at the limb-lengthening surgery and doesn't resort to more extreme procedures, like the aspiring German model who spent $50,000 to get 32K refillable breasts.

And that is the latest news in the fucked-up-things-people-do.
