There were quite a few memorable moments at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, one of them being Nicki Minaj's wardrobe malfunction during her performance of "Bang Bang" with Jessie J and Ariana Grande. Rumors circulated following the show, with some suggesting the slip-up happened on purpose. But put all the backend talk to rest because the rapper has finally spoken out about it.
During a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Nicki told Ellen that she didn't initially plan on wearing that black mini dress. But after seeing both Jessie J and Grande's black and white outfits, she ruled out the idea of wearing a green bra to keep it consistent. She also said that she wasn't wearing a bra or underwear under the dress.
Despite all the talk surrounding the moment, Nicki was completely candid and honest about the situation, telling Ellen during their sit-down that when the dress had come unzipped, "I thought I died." But of course, she walked onto the stage, held that dress together, and performed because that's how a goddamn queen does it.
At the end of the interview, Ellen gave Nicki a huge safety pin so she'd be prepared next time.
