London-based artist Nick Lord beat out 1,800 artists from around the UK to become the Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year. The 25-year-old painter will have his painting of Iraq war veteran Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry hung in the National Portrait Gallery for a week, but not everyone is happy about that.

In one of his previous paintings, Lord depicted the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, pregnant and wearing leopard underwear. Daily Mail attempted to contact the artist about his controversial early work, but were unable to reach him. We understand why some people would be offended by that piece in particular (at least it wasn't the Queen), but if every artist had to answer for their entire portfolio, the pool of talent would be very shallow.
