Two years. I began as the first full time employee at Unionmade, gradually worked my way into management, and then buying and other responsibilities.
What is your favorite seasonal collection buy of all time?
All-time is hard to say, but I'm always pleased with what ts(s) has to offer, their Fall '12 collection was particularly good, as well as Levi's Vintage Clothing's. LVC's ability to construct and work within strong narratives each season always keeps me interested and looking forward to how pieces will work together.
What brand's collection are you looking forward to getting most for SS13?
I'm especially looking forward to the SS13 collection from Kenneth Field, the second season from former Creative Director of Beams+, Kenny Kusano. His premiere collection was amazing and the progression for Spring is spot on. In line with my earlier response, I'm excited to see LVC's two story lines for Spring/Summer arrive, as well as new offerings from Tender Co. and Kapital.
What advice would you give other buyers just starting out?
Find a strong mentor and prioritize watching and listening over providing your initial opinions. Trust your instincts and don't pay too much attention to blogs.
