AKA Peace opened at London’s Institute for Contemporary Arts, inspired by photographer Bran Symondson's observations that policemen in Afghanistan decorate their guns with flowers and stickers. Among 20 other artists, Damien Hirst contributed a spin painted AK-47. The exhibit is up through September 30th at ICA. On October 4th, the guns will be for sale at Phillips de Pury to benefit Peace One Day, a charity that advocates for a global day of non-violence every Sept. 21.

Symondson says, “A lot of people say, ‘Am I scared of glorifying the AK-47?’ But I think the AK-47 is already glorified. I think the strongest message here is to show it can be used for something else visually and mentally.”
