In 1979, Henry Flynt began photographing a series of graffiti by an unknown artist that was springing up all over the city. What he didn’t know at the time was that SAMO was an art collective lead by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Al Diaz and Shannon Dawson. If you live in New York and don’t know what SAMO is, you need to move your uneducated ass back to Jersey, son. Drop this link when you’re at the coffee shop with that girl who wears that Black Flag tee that shows mad side boob. She’ll wanna do heroin exclusively with you from now on. Check out all of Flynt’s SAMO archive here.
