Best known for building the Rally Fighter off-roader, Arizona’s Local Motors is reportedly now focused on designing two lightweight sports cars for the pavement.
According to Automobile, the new cars will be designed in the same open-source format as the Rally Fighter, which will allow nearly anyone to have a say in the cars’ development. Here’s what isn’t up for debate though. The cars will feature a front-mounted turbocharged four-cylinder with at least 200-horsepower driving the rear wheels through a manual transmission, with independent suspension in the front and rear. Other than that, it’s up to the Internet.
Two versions will be produced. Local Motors will build a stripped-out hardcore version for the track (think Ariel Atom), as well as a full-bodied sports car for the street.
