Sponsors Terminate Association with Oldham over Ched Evans

Company director says the signing of the convicted rapist is “imminent.”

Verlin Rainwater Solutions, one of the sponsors of Oldham Athletic, have announced that they will stop their association with the club because of their efforts to sign convicted rapist Ched Evans.

Company Director Craig Verlin said the signing of Evans was “imminent,” but Oldham have yet to confirm anything.

Verlin added "We would like to take this opportunity to make clear that we feel that Mr Evans should be able to lead a life without further punishment after serving his sentence, although our feelings remain the same that this should not be within the public domain where his previous behaviour may influence the next generation. We sincerely wish the club a very successful future and have no regrets about being associated with Oldham Athletic over the past few seasons, but feel our continued support would be sending out the wrong message.”

Wales international Evans has been without a club since being released from prison last year, with his previous side Sheffield United deciding not to re-sign him following widespread opposition.
