False alarm is kind of a harsh term, but that's essentially what today's LaGuardia Airport evacuation was. After a baggage handler noticed smoke coming from a piece of luggage, the Delta section of Terminal C was evacuated as a precaution. The bag was on its way to Delta flight 5208 to Richmond, Va., and by the time the authorities got the terminal to check out the "threat," the bag was no longer smoking. Although most passengers were happy that the proper safety checks were being taken, others were just annoyed, as they were already delayed one day because of Monday's snow storm. The terminal has since reopened.
