Without success in finding the proper funding, electric car startup Aptera has been forced to close immediately. Aptera, recognized for its futuristic three-wheel vehicle, was unable to find enough private investing to match the $150 million conditional loan offer from the U.S. Department of Energy. What's interesting is that Energy Department spokesman Damien LaVera denied that the govenrment had committed.
Regardless, the company had received low interest in the 2e three-wheel car, and therefore was shifting focus to a new four-door electric sedan to better meet consumer needs. The delayed production didn't help instill confidence in potential buyers. Apparently investors only want to shove money into gorgeous electric sports cars like Tesla and Fisker.
