Super Six World Boxing Classic: Andre Ward v. Carl Froch Preview

This week, the world's top two super middleweight (168 pounds) fighters wrapped up their international tour for Showtime's Super Six World Boxing Classic. Andre Ward and Carl Froch are the two remaining fighters left in the championship tournament to find boxing's top super middleweight champion. In an age of boxing where anyone can seemingly add three letters before a weight class and give themselves a title, it's refreshing to have a tournament that rewards a champion that has truly beat the best among his peers.

Ward and Froch made stops to see their respective hometown fans in Oakland, Calif. and London, in addition to New York to promote their bout on October 29. Complex was able to attend the events in Oakland and NYC, and we took away a bit of insight into the history and personalities both fighters before their super fight on October 29 in Atlantic City. Take a minute to get to know two of boxing's best before they take to the ring.

Hometown: Nottingham, England
Record: 28-1-0 (20 KOs); Current WBC super middleweight champion
Bio: The UK has produced a number of all-time great fighters over the years like Lennox Lewis and Joe Calzaghe; Carl Froch will look to leave his stamp on the game with a victory over Andre Ward. Yeah, 34-year-old Froch is seven years Ward's senior but don't sleep on this powerful vet who has only surrendered one loss in nearly a decade's worth of professional bouts. The two-time super middleweight champ is known for his ability to take a punch and dole out brutal punishment as well. Word to Jermain Taylor. Ouch.
Fighting Words: "I strongly believe if there is a knockout in the fight, it will be me knocking out Ward. I don't feel that he has the punching power. Even if he did, I can't be stopped. I've got the granite chain, I'm a beast. Laugh if you will, but it's true. I can't be knocked out."

Bio: When it comes to Oak-Town legends, Andre Ward is right up there with the likes of J-Kidd and Too $hort. After taking the light heavyweight gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Ward has been unstoppable. He won his first title (WBO NABO super middleweight belt) in 2008 with a TKO victory over Jerson Ravelo. Since then, homie's been taking out opponents seemingly at will. Jay talks 'bout that life, Ward lives it.
Fighting Words: (In response to Carl Froch saying he can't punch)..."I love it. It's the promotion of big time boxing. Carl isn't the first person to say it and he won't be the last. I understand what it looks like on the outside. But it's a whole different thing inside the ring. Trust me, I'm hitting hard enough."

Winner Takes All: Both Andre Ward and Carl Froch's WBA and WBC super middleweight belts will be up for grabs, in addition to The Ring's super middleweight title. Whoever wins this match will no doubt be the top super middleweight fighter in the game. Oh yeah, then there's the bragging rights.
