An Eastern Kentucky University football player is in hot water after body-slamming a police officer during an arrest Monday, WBNS reports.
Michael Harris, a redshirt sophomore at the football roster, is seen in the video lifting one of the officers above his head and throwing him to the ground. The 245-lb linebacker is facing a "felony charge of assault and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest, obstructing official business, and disorderly conduct while intoxicated," the outlet reported.
According to court documents, the football player appeared to be "intoxicated" and "did not know where he was or know anyone in the area." Officers searched Harris' car and found pills, as well as a digital scale, according to TMZ. He denied any drug use, though.
The police officer was uninjured.
The 19-year-old is a transfer from Auburn University, and as of Thursday, still listed as a member of the team. The university said that it won't offer any further comment on the situation.
"EKU cannot comment further on current team status or potential disciplinary action related to a specific student-athlete due to the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)," Kevin Britton, Assistant Athletics Director for Communications and Branding, told Eastern Progress in a statement.
The linebacker is currently in jail awaiting trial in Franklin County, Ohio.
